Privacy Policy

GEO Wiki is a reference site you can read entirely anonymously — no account, form, or newsletter stands between you and any entry. The one optional feature that involves an account is the free tools, where Google sign-in raises a usage limit but is never required. The data we process falls into three buckets: aggregate usage analytics, the minimal account and metering data behind the tools, and email you choose to send us. This page lists all three, names every third party involved, and explains how to opt out.

The short version

• You can read the entire site anonymously, with cookies blocked.
• The free tools work without an account; signing in with Google is optional and stores only your email, name, and avatar, never a password.
• We use two analytics tools (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity) to understand aggregate usage.
• Site search runs entirely in your browser — queries are not sent to a search server.
• We do not sell, rent, or trade any data, and we run no advertising.

What we collect

1. Usage analytics — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which entries are read, where visitors arrive from, and on what kinds of devices. It sets cookies and collects pages visited, referrer, browser and device information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. Google processes this data as described in the Google Privacy Policy. Analytics runs only on the production site, not in development.

2. Session analytics — Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how pages are actually used — heatmaps of clicks and scrolling, and anonymized session replays. It sets cookies and records interaction data (mouse movement, clicks, scroll depth) alongside device information. Microsoft processes this data as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

3. Hosting logs — Cloudflare

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any host, Cloudflare processes connection data (IP address, user agent, requested URL) to deliver pages and to protect the site from attacks, per the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.

4. Accounts and the free tools — Google sign-in and DeepSeek

The tools under Free Tools are usable without an account. Because each run crawls a site and calls an AI model, we meter usage: an anonymous run is counted against a pseudonym computed by hashing your IP address together with the current date — your IP itself is never stored, and the pseudonym cannot be linked across days or back to you. Those counters are deleted daily. Signing in with Google is optional and raises the limit; from Google we then receive and store your email address, display name, and avatar URL — never a password, and no access to anything else in your Google account — plus a usage record per run (which URL you submitted, and when). When you run the llms.txt generator, our servers fetch the website you entered, and the crawled page metadata is sent to the DeepSeek API to draft the output. What we do not collect

• No passwords — sign-in exists only via Google OAuth, so no password ever reaches us.
• No comments or newsletter sign-ups; reading requires no account at all.
• No payment data — nothing on the site is sold.
• No server-side search logging — search is powered by Pagefind and runs entirely in your browser against a downloaded index. Your query does appear in the results page URL (/search?q=…), so it can show up in the analytics page paths described above.
• No third-party fonts or CDNs for core assets — fonts are self-hosted, so reading a page triggers no font-provider requests.

Cookies and local storage

Reading GEO Wiki sets no first-party cookies. If you sign in for the free tools, we set two: an HttpOnly session cookie (__gw_session, 30 days) and a signed-in hint (gw_auth) that carries no personal data; both disappear on sign-out. Beyond that, the only cookies you will see come from Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, and the site is fully functional with them blocked. Your light/dark theme preference is kept in your browser's localStorage under a single theme key; it never leaves your device.

To opt out of analytics: block third-party cookies in your browser, use a content blocker (the site works fine with one), or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.

Email you send us

If you write to support@geo.wiki, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it to reply and for nothing else — no mailing lists, no sharing with third parties. Ask us to delete a past exchange and we will.

Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade data. The third parties named above (Google, Microsoft, Cloudflare, and DeepSeek) process data under their own policies as part of providing their services. Beyond that, we would disclose data only if legally required to.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. The personal data we hold directly is your email correspondence and, if you signed in, the account record described above (email, name, avatar, tool-run history). The practical path is simple either way: email us and we will delete it, sessions included. For analytics data held by Google or Microsoft, their privacy controls linked above apply.

Children

The site is a professional reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; the only sign-in path is a Google account, governed by Google's own age requirements.

Changes to this policy

If our data practices change — say, we add a newsletter someday — this page will be updated first, with the date below reflecting the revision. Material changes will be called out plainly.
